Tips on Ordering Personalized License Plate Frames
How many characters per line can I engrave?
We offer two types of fonts for the license plate frames. Single Line and True line (double line) fonts. True line examples are Comic Sans, Staccato, Tahoma, etc. Single Line examples are greenwood, italic, script, etc. For large amounts of text, including three and four line frames, we recommend using one of the Single Line fonts offered. These fonts have thicker lines stand out best when their size is reduced. See samples to estimate number of characters allowed for a specific font. To receive a maximum character quote for a specific font, please contact us.

License Plate Frame Font color choices
For maximum text visibility, avoid choosing bright colors for polished frames and dark colors for black anodized frames.
Can the frames for the license plates withstand salt and sunlight?
All frames, both polished and anodized, are clear coated, sealed with a polymer urethane sealant, and waxed to resist road salt and direct sunlight.
Are there specific care instructions for the license plate frames?
Use a mild automotive soap to clean and occasionally hand wax. If frames are placed on the front of the vehicle, use a clear protective cover over the frame. Also recommended are the use of stainless or plastic fastening bolts to avoid rust bleed. These covers and fasteners are available at any auto parts store. Included with each frame are nylon washers to be placed between the screw head and the frame.
What are the license plate frame dimensions?
The frame size is 6.125" X 12.125" X 1/8". Bolt hole locations are 7 inches center to center left to right and 4 3/4 inches center to center top to bottom.
Can I use both upper case (capital) and lower case (small) letters?
Both can be used. When lower case letters are used, the text is smaller and is less visible, this is more evident with true line fonts. When using the lower case (small) letters g j p q y, all character sizes must be reduced in size to keep all text centered.
Can I mix and match fonts and colors?
Included with the standard price, you may chose up to two fonts (polished or anodized) and two colors (polished frames only). Specify in the special instructions box which characters receive a specific font or color. For a combination of three or more fonts and colors, please contact us for a quote.
I only want two lines on my license plate frame, which of the four lines do I enter the text on the order page?
For a two line frame, use lines one and two. Three line frames use lines one, two , and three. In the special instructions box, specify if you want the two lines on top or bottom for three line frames.
What is standard versus italic?
Standard characters are straight. Italic characters lean to the right. For a combination of both, specify in the special instructions box.
What is a Wide Line frame?
There are examples of Wide Line frames on the Frame Styles and Frame Gallery pages. These frames have two mounting holes versus the standard four. This allows for one of the two lines to be the whole width of frame, thus allowing up to a maximum of approximately 25 characters for that line. The mounting holes can be on the top or the bottom of the frame, giving you the choice of where you want the Wide Line (top or bottom).
What is a Single Line frame?
There are examples of Single Line frames on the Frame Styles and Frame Gallery pages. These frames have text on only one half of the frame - top or bottom. This allows for more clearance for license plate characters. Single Line 3 frames can have either one tall or two lines of text.
